Statement: "Made in Europe: produce in Europe or disappear, the time for choice is now!"

Statement: "Made in Europe: produce in Europe or disappear, the time for choice is now!"

There was a time when we could still hesitate: that time is over.

International competition has become unfair: the rules of the game that we respect in good faith are turning against our European production sites. Tariffs, massive subsidies aimed at exports, the use of our dependencies as geopolitical leverage… The rules of the game have changed. Or rather, they are no longer being respected. Faced with this, European industry is clearly under threat. Since the beginning of the 2000s, Europe has lost nearly one million jobs in manufacturing. Its technological positions are being challenged, its productive base is weakening, and entire segments of its industrial fabric now depend on external supplies that it no longer controls.

This decline is not inevitable. We have built a single market of 450 million consumers that is our strength, but not our power. Today, we know that Europe must be a power that produces, not merely a market that consumes. Because industry is a country's greatest asset.

It is not a matter of choosing between opening up and closing our internal market, but of making the choice of “Made in Europe”: using public money to produce more in Europe and to encourage greater investment in Europe.

Member States have already begun supporting the transformation of their strategic industries by conditioning certain forms of public aid on European production or by using public procurement to buy European. These initiatives will not be sufficient if they remain isolated: it is at the level of the European market that Member States will structure the value chains necessary for our future and for the prosperity of European territories.

We are open to competition. We believe in the need to take action to improve the competitiveness of our companies by reducing the burdens weighing on them. Companies that want to produce, invest and innovate in Europe are welcome. We exclude no one. We want fair competition and we want those who sell in our market to also contribute to creating value there in order to guarantee our prosperity.

The Industrial Accelerator Act can be the change of approach that companies are waiting for. Provided that it truly makes it possible to use European public money to strengthen those of us who are developing our industrial footprint on European soil, as well as to reward investments in Europe rather than outside Europe.

We share this conviction: Europe must rise to the scale of the challenges it faces. Producing in Europe must be rewarded. Producing means deciding our future. Let us decide it together.
